title: Scanning on Windows with Intel AMX
---

## Why do Windows Explorers or CLI scans crash on Intel AMX-capable systems?

Some Windows hosts expose Intel Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) CPU features that can interfere with runZero scan operations and cause Explorer or CLI scanner instability and crashes. This can affect both physical hardware and virtual machines.

To resolve or mitigate this issue:

1. Disable AMX support at the BIOS level (physical systems) or at the host/hypervisor level before installing or running runZero.
2. If Windows is running as a guest on Hyper-V, enable **Processor Compatibility** for that VM to help mitigate AMX-related crashes.

If the issue persists after applying one of the above mitigations, reinstall the Explorer or rerun the CLI scanner and collect diagnostics for runZero support.
