How do I scan VMware virtual machines without crashing the host?

The best way to scan VMware virtual machines is with a runZero Explorer deployed inside VMware, on a virtual machine connected to the VMnet you want to scan. That Explorer should be able to scan all VMs on the same VMnet without VMware having to track all of the connections.

The Explorer’s placement matters because VMnet interfaces normally use Network Address Translation (NAT) to route traffic between the host system and the virtual machines, which makes the VMware software act as a stateful router. A scan that opens thousands of connections can cause the same problems described in Scanning routers.
